SUBJ: Charge for the Committee

Thanks to everyone for agreeing to serve on the Environmental Committee.

This year I would like to expand the Environmental Committee's focus to have responsibility for the College's environmental leadership initiative and to develop a process to seek input from the campus community on how best the College could become an environmentally responsible employer and educational leader.

The goal of this Committee is to:

1)  Assess the impact of climate disruption on our campus and use this assessment to guide our strategies in taking reasonable steps to reduce our carbon footprint;

2)  Assess what current learning opportunities exist and discern what kind of new learning opportunities may be explored;

3)  Assess how we can partner with our communities to build and foster environmental awareness and responsibility.

4)  Utilize the College Assessment Matrix to develop a workplan consistent with the college's goals.

When the committee completes its assessment, I am asking that it develop recommendations for Shoreline, in conjunction with implementation of the commitments of the Seattle Climate Partnership Agreement, which Shoreline, as a founding member, has signed to uphold.  Please forward your recommendations to me no later than April 13, 2007.

Enclosed are the Seattle Climate Partnership Agreement and a Washington Center Publication, "Curriculum for the Bioregion:  Connecting What We Learn to Where We Live."
