Assessment
Using Scores from other colleges
If you have taken the ASSET or COMPASS placement tests at another
school, you have the option to transfer those scores to SCC. SCC
does not accept scores from the ACCUPLACER or any other assessment
test other than ASSET and COMPASS. You may submit your ASSET or
COMPASS scores from other schools subject to the following conditions:
* ASSET/COMPASS Math scores cannot be more than three years old
* ASSET/COMPASS English scores cannot be more
than three years old
Please call the Admissions Office for more information. You may
also fax your COMPASS results to the Admissions Office along with
your student identification number (SID) and phone number.
All new students at Shoreline are
encouraged to take either the ASSET or the COMPASS test. However,
placement testing is required for the following students:
- Students who declare an intent
to pursue a college degree or certificate.
- Students who plan to enroll in a
math, English or “W” designated class or any course with a math
or English prerequisite.
Placement testing is not required for
transfer students who submit official college transcripts showing
the completion of both college-level math and English composition
with a grade of 2.0 (C) or better.
Students who have taken the SAT or ACT of any date may submit those scores in lieu of placement testing for their English placement. Math scores from SAT or ACT are not accepted.
NOTE: All students who are non-native
speakers of English and who have been in the United States less than
four years will be assessed according to the policies and procedures
of the Essential Skills Program; call 206-546-5827 for more
information.
