Bachelor degrees are made up of approximately 180
credits and most have three different parts: general
university requirements (breadth of knowledge), a major
(specialization) and electives.
- General university
requirements (approximately 70 credits)
usually include: English, Math, and courses in
the Humanities, Social Sciences and
Physical/Natural Sciences. (The
University is made up of "colleges"
which are broad areas consisting of a
number of different "majors".
- A Major (generally
45 credits or more) is your chosen area
of study -
such as Business, Chemistry, English,
History, Music, Psychology, Zoology,
etc.
- Electives (approximately 20 credits)
are classes you take in order to pursue
or explore an area of interest. They are
taken in addition to your major and
general university requirements, and
count toward your total 180 credits.
