Running Start

There are SIX simple steps.  These steps need to be completed prior to the application and registration deadlines.

            Application & Registration Deadlines:
               Fall:  September 19, 2008
               Winter:  January 2, 2009
               Spring:  March 27, 2009

Step 1:  Applications
Consult with your high school counselor and parents or guardians about your readiness.  Submit a Shoreline Community College Application for Admission form and an official copy of your high school transcript to the Running Start Office.  Download Application form (.pdf).

Step 2:  Schedule a COMPASS test
You must take the COMPASS test to determine your readiness for English and Math courses.  Call the Testing Center at (206) 546-4608 to make an appointment to take the test.

Step 3:  Take the COMPASS test
\
Take the COMPASS test as scheduled.  You must qualify for English 101 in both Reading and Writing skills to qualify for the Running Start program.

Step 4:  Receive Test Results
Bring a copy of your COMPASS test results to the Running Start Office.  If you have qualified for the program, your application will be forwarded to Enrollment Services.  A Running Start eligibility letter and further instructions will be mailed to the student’s home.  If you did not qualify, but are still interested, please contact us for your options.

Step 5:  Meet with Your High School Counselor
Meet with your high school counselor to complete the “Quarterly Course Approval Form,” listing the class(es) the student wishes to take.  We strongly recommend you that you include a list of alternate classes as well.  Quarterly Course Approval Forms must also be signed by a parent or guardian, even if the student is 18 years old.  For every year you attend Running Start you must complete this form with your counselor.

Step 6:  Attend New Student Orientation and Registration session
You will be notified by mail how to schedule a New Student Orientation and Registration session.  You must attend this session to register for classes.
