Anyone who intends to earn a degree or
certificate at Shoreline Community College
needs to take the COMPASS or ASSET test. If
you have at least 35 credits from other
colleges in college level English or Math,
or if you have recent test scores from
another college you may not need to take the
test. Please talk to your advisor for more
information.

The classes recommended are usually your
best choice. Assessment is a way of testing
your level of knowledge in certain subjects.
This will give you and your advisor a way to
place you in appropriate classes. You should
discuss your course placement in Math and
English courses with your advisor.
Yes, you can retake any section of the
COMPASS test anytime. However, you must wait
30 days before re-taking the ASSET. The cost
is $15 each time. If your score
doesn't improve even after you spend time
preparing for the test (some practice
questions can be found at
http://act.org/compass), it is best to register for
the recommended course. Call the Testing Center (located
in the 5000 building) at (206) 546-4608, to schedule a
retake.
